Storage Receiving in NYC
Your new furniture is arriving, but your NYC apartment or renovation isn’t ready yet?
Divine Moving & Storage provides short-term furniture receiving and warehouse storage in NYC for homeowners, renters, property buyers and renovation clients who need a place to accept deliveries before their home is ready.
Instead of asking a furniture retailer to delay shipping or trying to coordinate delivery to an apartment you cannot access, you can arrange to have approved furniture shipments delivered to our Bronx warehouse. We receive your items, document their arrival, store them for the agreed period and coordinate final delivery when you’re ready.
Whether you’re waiting for apartment keys, a closing date, construction completion or a building’s move-in approval, Divine can help bridge the gap between when your furniture arrives and when you can actually use it.
Family-owned and serving New York City since 1999, Divine operates its own warehouse, trucks and professional moving crews.

Where Can I Store New Furniture Before Moving Into My NYC Apartment?
If you have ordered furniture but cannot accept delivery at your new apartment, a receiving warehouse can provide a temporary solution.
Divine Moving & Storage accepts approved furniture shipments at our Bronx warehouse and holds them until you have a confirmed move-in or delivery date. You do not need to rent a separate self-storage unit, meet every carrier personally or arrange transportation from storage to your apartment.
We can coordinate the receiving, temporary storage and final delivery as one service plan.
Common Reasons NYC Customers Need Temporary Furniture Receiving
- Delayed apartment closings: Furniture is ready before the purchase is completed and keys are released.
- Move-in date changes: A lease begins later than expected or a building delays access.
- Renovations running behind schedule: New furniture arrives before painting, flooring, cabinetry or other work is finished.
- Early furniture sales: You purchase pieces at the right price but cannot accept them immediately.
- Multiple retailer deliveries: A sofa, mattress, bed frame and dining table have different delivery dates.
- Strict building rules: A co-op or condominium requires a certificate of insurance, freight elevator reservation or advance delivery approval.
- Relocation to NYC: You want furniture delivered to a local warehouse before arriving in the city.
- Temporary housing: You are staying in a furnished apartment or hotel while preparing your permanent residence.
The key difference: This service is specifically for goods arriving before you are ready to receive them at home. If you need to remove existing furniture from an apartment during construction, see our renovation storage services.
How Short-Term Furniture Receiving and Storage Works
Step 1: Tell Us What Is Arriving
Contact Divine before placing shipments in transit. Provide the number of items, approximate dimensions, retailer names, anticipated delivery dates and expected storage period.
We review the shipment details and establish a receiving arrangement before you direct vendors to our warehouse.
Step 2: Give Your Retailers the Approved Warehouse Information
After your receiving arrangement is confirmed, we provide the warehouse delivery information and any required project or customer reference.
Use these instructions when arranging shipments with furniture stores, manufacturers and delivery carriers.
Important: Do not independently redirect shipments to the warehouse before Divine has approved the receiving arrangements.
Step 3: We Receive and Document Your Shipments
When approved furniture shipments arrive, we check them in and carry out the receiving services described in your agreement.
Depending on the approved scope, these may include:
- Recording the arrival date and shipment reference
- Checking visible carton or packaging condition
- Confirming the apparent number of delivered pieces
- Noting readily observable packaging damage
- Taking receiving photographs when requested
- Associating deliveries with your customer or project reference
Standard receiving does not automatically include opening every box, testing furniture, discovering concealed damage or verifying all internal components. Detailed inspection can be discussed before delivery.
Step 4: Your Furniture Goes Into Temporary Storage
Received items are placed into the agreed storage arrangement until the destination is ready. A short-term plan might cover several days, a few weeks or a longer period if your circumstances change.
Storage terms depend on the items, space requirements, availability and service agreement.
Step 5: Confirm Your Apartment Is Ready
When your closing, renovation or move-in date is confirmed, contact us to arrange delivery.
Our team reviews the final inventory, apartment address, access instructions, building requirements and the delivery services you want.
Step 6: Receive Your Furniture at Home
We can schedule delivery from the warehouse to your residence. Optional white-glove services may include room-of-choice placement, approved furniture assembly, unpacking and eligible packaging removal.
Your new furniture arrives according to the confirmed delivery schedule rather than the individual shipping schedules of the retailers.
How Long Can You Store Furniture Before Moving In?
Some customers need storage for only a few days. Others need several weeks while a closing, construction project or building approval is finalized.
We can discuss short-term holding arrangements based on your expected schedule.
A Few Days to Two Weeks
Useful when your furniture is delivered shortly before a lease begins, a move-in reservation becomes available or final apartment cleaning is finished.
Two to Eight Weeks
Common planning scenarios include delayed renovations, flooring installations, painting, closing delays or furniture arriving several weeks before occupancy.
One to Three Months or Longer
For longer construction delays, staggered furnishing projects or uncertain closing dates, a longer storage arrangement may be more appropriate.
You don’t need to know your exact final delivery date when requesting a preliminary quote. Provide your best estimate and let us know if the timeline is uncertain. Any extension will be subject to the storage agreement, available space and applicable charges.
Example: Furniture Arrives 12 Days Before Apartment Move-In
The following is an illustrative timeline showing how short-term receiving can work. It is not a representation of a completed client project.
Day 1: The Sofa Arrives
A furniture retailer delivers the sofa to Divine’s warehouse using the approved receiving instructions. The shipment is checked in and held in storage.
Day 4: Bed Frame and Nightstands Arrive
A second vendor delivers the bedroom furniture. Those shipments are associated with the same customer.
Day 7: Dining Table Arrives
The table is received and added to the storage arrangement. Any special handling needs have been reviewed in advance.
Day 10: Apartment Access Is Confirmed
The customer receives the building’s approval and confirms the available freight elevator and move-in window.
Day 12: Consolidated Furniture Delivery
Subject to the agreed schedule, Divine transports the available furniture to the apartment in one coordinated delivery, with approved placement and assembly services.
Why this arrangement helps: Instead of organizing three different delivery appointments at a Manhattan apartment, the customer can coordinate one warehouse-to-home delivery when access is available.
What Furniture Can Divine Receive and Hold?
Our warehouse can accommodate many types of approved household furniture and furnishings, including:
- Sofas, sectionals and upholstered chairs
- Beds, bed frames, headboards and mattresses
- Dressers, nightstands and wardrobes
- Dining tables, dining chairs and bar stools
- Coffee tables, side tables and consoles
- Desks, office chairs and bookshelves
- Rugs, mirrors and home accessories
- TV stands and selected boxed electronics
- Approved lamps and decorative lighting
- Other packaged furniture and household furnishings
Oversized furniture, heavy stone or glass pieces, large crates, unusually valuable items and goods requiring specialized equipment must be reviewed in advance. Certain items may require special handling arrangements or may not be suitable for acceptance.
Can We Receive Just One Item?
Yes, small receiving and storage requests can be reviewed. Whether you need to hold one sofa, a bedroom set or furniture for an entire apartment, the cost and availability depend on the shipment details and delivery requirements.
Can Furniture From Several Stores Be Held Together?
Yes. Approved purchases from multiple retailers can be received under one customer reference, held during the storage period and scheduled for consolidated delivery.
What Happens If My Closing or Renovation Gets Delayed?
Real estate and renovation timelines do not always go according to plan. A move-in date may change because of building approvals, contractor delays, punch-list repairs or a postponed closing.
If your delivery date changes, contact Divine as early as possible so we can review the revised storage period and the availability of your requested delivery date.
Our goal is to make the storage and redelivery process easier to coordinate without requiring you to redirect shipments repeatedly between locations.
What If Only Some of My Furniture Has Arrived?
You may have the option to wait for additional items or arrange a partial delivery. We can review the cost and scheduling implications of each approach.
What If a Shipment Arrives Damaged?
When visible-condition documentation is included in your receiving scope, our team can record readily observable packaging issues and communicate the exception to the designated contact.
Claims, retailer replacements, refunds and returns are generally handled according to the retailer’s terms and your service agreement. Additional inspection, repacking or return-shipping arrangements can be discussed separately.
What If I Need My Furniture Earlier Than Expected?
Contact our team with the preferred delivery date, building access information and any updated instructions. We can check the available delivery schedule. Earlier delivery is subject to availability and is not automatically guaranteed.
Short-Term Furniture Storage vs. Renting a Self-Storage Unit
Both options can provide temporary space, but they serve different needs.
Self-storage may be suitable if you already have the furniture in your possession, can transport it yourself and are comfortable handling loading and unloading.
Furniture receiving with storage is useful when newly purchased furniture is still with a retailer, vendor or shipping carrier and you need a company to accept approved deliveries on your behalf.
With Divine, you can arrange one coordinated process covering receiving, temporary storage and final transportation rather than separately organizing a storage unit, warehouse acceptance and moving company.

Short-Term Furniture Receiving and Storage Costs in NYC
Pricing depends on the amount of furniture, number of incoming shipments, storage duration and the final delivery requirements.
We provide project-specific quotes so customers can understand the services included before confirming the arrangement.
What Affects Your Quote?
- Receiving appointments: The number of vendors and separate deliveries.
- Item size and quantity: How much warehouse space the furniture requires.
- Storage duration: The anticipated number of days, weeks or months.
- Handling: Cartons, pallets, crates, unusually heavy furniture and required equipment.
- Inspection: Basic exterior review versus requested photo documentation or additional unpacking.
- Final delivery: Destination, truck and crew requirements, stairs, elevators, long carries and access conditions.
- Optional services: Furniture assembly, unpacking, packaging disposal and additional delivery visits.
Is It Cheaper to Hold Furniture and Deliver Everything Together?
Consolidating shipments may reduce the number of separate visits to your building. However, receiving and storage have their own costs, so the best option depends on your specific purchases and timeline.
We can compare the expected receiving, storage and final delivery requirements to prepare an appropriate service proposal.

Preparing for Your Final NYC Apartment Delivery
Before scheduling delivery from storage, it’s important to confirm that your building can accept furniture on the requested day.
NYC Co-op and Condo Requirements
Many apartment buildings require a certificate of insurance (COI), advance management approval, an elevator reservation or a designated moving window. Some buildings also restrict weekend or evening deliveries.
Divine can coordinate applicable COI documentation and delivery logistics according to the property’s requirements.
Elevator and Furniture Measurements
Large sofas, bed frames and dining tables should be checked against elevator and hallway dimensions. A piece that fits inside an apartment may not fit through the elevator door or around a narrow turn.
Provide packaged dimensions and any known access restrictions in advance.
Room Placement and Assembly
Let us know which rooms should receive the furniture and whether assembly is required. Beds, dining tables and other standard pieces may be assembled when included in the approved scope.
Specialized electrical work, plumbing, wall mounting and certain technical installations require separate review.
Packaging Removal
Eligible packaging and debris removal can be included in the delivery proposal. Confirm this in advance so the crew and disposal arrangements are appropriate for the shipment.

Short-Term Furniture Receiving NYC — Frequently Asked Questions
Can I ship furniture to Divine before my apartment lease begins?
Yes. You can arrange for approved furniture shipments to be received and stored before your NYC lease or move-in date. The receiving plan must be confirmed before your retailers ship.
Can you receive furniture before I close on a condo or co-op?
Yes. Short-term receiving can help when furniture is ready before your closing date. Divine can store the approved items and coordinate delivery after you have access to the property.
Can you hold furniture for just one or two weeks?
Short-term storage arrangements can be reviewed for periods of days or weeks. Availability, charges and any minimums depend on the items and service agreement.
Can you receive shipments from Wayfair, West Elm, CB2 or other retailers?
We can review shipments from many furniture retailers, including major online stores and furniture manufacturers. Delivery method, item dimensions, freight requirements and receiving appointments must be confirmed before shipping.
Can I order furniture before I have my apartment keys?
Yes, provided the receiving arrangement is established first. Your retailer can then use the approved warehouse information instead of your future apartment address.
What happens if my renovation takes an extra month?
Contact Divine to review an extension of the storage period. Additional storage is subject to the service agreement, space availability and applicable charges.
Will you open and inspect all my furniture boxes?
Not automatically. Basic receiving focuses on shipment check-in and readily visible packaging conditions. More extensive unpacking, photography or inspection can be requested in advance.
Can you deliver everything on my move-in day?
Delivery can be planned for your target move-in date, subject to scheduling availability, confirmed inventory and building access. Advance notice is recommended.
Do I need to be present when vendors deliver to your warehouse?
Normally, the approved receiving arrangement allows Divine to accept the shipments without you attending each delivery. Any exceptions or authorization requirements are confirmed during setup.
Can you assemble furniture after storage?
Yes. Approved furniture assembly, room placement and eligible packaging removal can be included in the final delivery quote.
Can you receive furniture while my existing belongings remain in storage?
Depending on the project and agreed inventory plan, receiving new purchases and storing existing belongings can be coordinated together. Provide both inventories when requesting a quote.
Is this service only for interior designers?
No. This short-term receiving service is designed for homeowners, renters and people preparing to move into a property. Interior designers needing larger multi-vendor installations can explore our dedicated Furniture Receiving Warehouse NYC for Interior Designers services.
