Here are some tips for our Brooklyn movers:

You placed your moving date, secured your new home and are pumped for the transition. As you look at your old home, you might be feeling overwhelmed on how to piece everything together at your new place. No worries! Here are our three easy tips that will help you stay organized while moving in Brooklyn.

Make A List

Before you even lift a finger on packing away your items, it’s a good idea to take a look around your current home to see what’s available. Carry a notepad (or your smartphone) and create sections on where the items should belong. A good list suggestion – items to keep, sell, throw away and donate. Try to keep your list simple enough to read, but with enough room to organize your items before you start the packing process.  Ideally, you want to make sure that you have your list prepared at least 1 – 2 months before you start packing. Putting off your list before crunch time would not be a viable solution since you’ll need to make sure that all bases are covered.

Color Coordinate Your Items

Depending your new home theme, it’ll be a good idea to sort out your items based on colors. You may try to vary the items based on color tone ranges (i.e. colors that are warm or cool). Or, you can simply grab multiple boxes and name them with each color of the rainbow. If you’re organizing your items based on a color palette, try to group them in boxes where the theme will stay consistent. For example, you can sort out the items based on a tropical theme (with notes of blue and teal) or items that have a newborn theme feel (with notes of pastel colors). Looking for inspiration? Check out Pantone’s website for some color ideas for you new home theme.

Sort Items By Size

Do you have an influx of items that are in varying sizes? Consider getting boxes to fit your items based on their dimensions. Make sure to measure your items based on height and length before purchasing your storage boxes or get them from your Brooklyn movers. Keep in mind that some items will take up more space than others. It’s really important to make sure that when packing away your items, you’re not putting in too much gaps in between. Take into consideration that you’ll need to leave some room to add padding and making sure that the items won’t shift during transportation.

Sort Items By Weight

With the exception of heavy furniture, there will be some items that may require more effort to carry than others. Additionally, not all heavy items will require boxes as this may break easily during transportation. If needed, you may want to place the heavy items on a moving dolly cart. By doing so, it’ll prevent from straining your body during the packing process. It’s also a good idea to ask for help if you’re having trouble packing away heavier items. No one likes a sack of broken bones on the floor before the initial move.

Pack Your Items In Your Luggage

Not enough boxes at your disposal? typically Brooklyn movers can get a box delivery from us but if you have backpacks, large suitcases and other types of bags that you normally use for traveling, try using them to pack away items that usually would take up a lot of space in boxes. For example, you can pack away clothes, bath towels, toiletries into your luggages. If you have more than one family member, this setup would be ideal for your partner and kids who want to keep their items, without mixing them up in multiple boxes.
