We all know that moving can be very frustrating. This frustration is a reflection of our own inability to go through everything and can’t control every aspect of the moving process. Going against this fact is what drive people crazy about moving. But there are several things that can make your moving easier. One of them is movers. Learn about 10 things your movers want you to know when moving and find out what is good to do and what isn’t.

1. Be prepared!

This is the first of the things your movers want you to know. One thing that probably makes angry most of the world’s population is irresponsibility. When moving, you probably think only about how to move the safest way without any problems. That is the reason why you need to be prepared. This involves having all your stuff packed and ready. Don’t be deceived that you can do all of this in a short period of time. The fact is that you cant and you shouldn’t do this. This way you have a relatively high percentage to do something wrong or to forget something.

No one wants to start moving when they finally realize that something is missing or that you forgot something. It is one thing not to care what your movers think but after all, you are paying them for their services. Keep in mind that this kind of irresponsibility can cost you more due to long waiting.

2. Have everything properly packed

It is not good to be prepared inadequately. What we mean by this is that it is important to be prepared when movers come, but it all has to be properly packed. This must be done when you are self-packing but if you want you can always try some Manhattan moving services to help you out and make you ready for transport.

If you self pack, include these few things:

  • Using proper boxes
  • It all needs to be taped so your stuff doesn’t fall out
  • Be sure that you don’t overload boxes
  • Label the boxes

These are some things you should think about when packing and prevent that something bad happens to your stuff.

It is much easier to store your packed belongings into some storage. This way you are more relieved and everything is into professional hands. Anyway, there are a lot of Manhattan storage options you can try but be sure that it is going to cost you more!

3. Carry important documents with you at all times

Don't get into trouble after losing them
Carry important documents with you at all times

We can all agree that there are some documents that are needed to be with us at all times. This includes ID, passport, etc. Due to hurry you are in, you could easily forget this. But don’t! It is easy to say this but it is for your own sake. First, the amount of stress when forgetting something (for example your phone) is high. We all had a situation when we don’t feel a phone in our pocket. Sweat, tachycardia, panic, you name it. These are all bad feelings and we all try to avoid them.

Second, if you forget a passport, you won’t be able to move at all (when moving to another country). It is a bad reason not to move, right? Avoid all of this when moving by separating passport, money and other expensive stuff, and put in some kind of bag that will be with you at all times.

4. Be on the spot

We assume you already know that you are supposed to be there when carrying thing out of the house or apartment.  Anyway, this must be said again because there are some cases when people leave movers so they could do their job. Even though in theory it is a good intention, don’t do this. Only you know how you imagined things to go. They can sometimes go your way, sometimes don’t but it is important to compromise. It is a boring job but you don’t do it every day.

5. Communicate

As we said in the previous paragraph, it is important to say what you want. Even though it can’t be always done, tell and see the reaction. You can always talk through your plan and maybe come up with some kind of a mutual agreement that will make both parties happy. This is an important aspect of things your movers want you to know because they have difficulties too. One of them implies a lack of communication and due to that they sometimes have to modify the original plan. This consumes time for both of you. Prevent that and have the freedom to ask for what you want.

Be free to ask everything you want

6.  Give them easy access to your house or apartment

This is good to know for the people that have troublesome access due to the small width of a street you live in or some other reason. It is important to give directions to your movers so they could be the most productive as they possibly could. Another reason to do this is to make their job easier and your move less stressful. Also, this way they don’t need as much to cross so there is less chance for something to get broken. Think about all the important stuff you don’t want to break.

7. Avoid children and pets on moving day

Moving day is considered a stressful and difficult day. A lot of manual labor, maybe some noise so it needs to be organized. Keep in mind that children and pets can be in a movers way this way or another. You surely don’t want your pet to trip someone to break your stuff. If that isn’t enough, someone can get hurt so be responsible and move your children and pets to another location.

8. Things your movers want you to know when tipping

Usually, there is confusion regarding this topic. Do I tip them and how much? You need to know that you have no obligation to do this. This is one of the things your movers want you to know.  This is just an act of goodwill. We know that there can be a moment during moving where you get all uncomfortable due to this thinking. Don’t be uncomfortable. They certainly don’t expect you to tip them. In the end, if you feel that they earned it, you can always tip your movers.

Don't feel obligated to tip
Tip only if you feel they deserved it

9. Leave them to do their job

A common mistake is to try and help them. People think that if they pitch in they will be a good help. Remove this thought from your head because no one knows this job better than them! You would just bother them and possibly lower the amount of the job done. There are a few ways to use your time while they are moving. The best way you can help is to make food and some cold beverage. Hold on the side and watch professionals do their job!

10. Pay

This thing can be done before or after the move depending on the company you hired. But be sure to pay up. Even though contracts nowadays contain very defined terms of paying, no one needs to solve these things on the court. After all, it would just consume more of your money. Depending on the deal you agreed to, be sure to pay for their service and tip if you think they deserved it.

These are 10 things your movers want you to know and we hope that this will be of help during your moving!
