Guide for moving with pets

Moving is a difficult task for the whole family. There is a huge amount of things you need to take care of once you start the move. There are packing and documentation and many more important things. But you should not forget that you need to take care of your pets. This is an important task that sounds complicated. There are many factors that make this sound much more complicated than it actually is like flying with pets, getting the right documentation. This is why Divine Moving and Storage has gathered information on moving with pets. So we can show you that this is nothing to be scared about.

Do a lot of research when moving with pets

When you move you need to do a lot of research on many things. You should not forget to do research on how to properly move your pets. If you forget this it could ruin the whole relocation. If it is a short distance relocation you have nothing to worry about, if it’s moving from state to state that you are looking at, then you need to do more planning and research. The things get a bit complicated when moving from a country to another country. Make sure you have enough time to research the options you have, once you do that plan out your move.

Contact the vet and check the laws

When you move from country to country you have to check the countries laws on moving with pets. When moving long distance some pets will have to take some vaccines or they might even need a quarantine. To help with this you should consult with the consulate and a vet. Once you find out what you have to do by law you have to contact the vet so you can schedule the vaccines. You will also have to get the medical records about your pet. There also could be some laws that prohibit some exotic pets which is why you have to consult with the officials.

Driving your pets in a car

If are not moving that far away and you do not need to use a plane you will have to drive your pets in a car. This might sound easy since some pets enjoy car trips, but your drive might last for a few days. These few days will be harder than you think. This will obviously be different for different types of pets. Dogs will not be as challenging as cats for example.

Moving with cats

Cats as mentioned before, are hard to move with. This is because cats tend to bond with their environment, they will attach to their homes. But once you move they don’t really have many choices don’t they? Be sure to be prepared since cats will take much longer to adapt to their new environment than dogs. You can drive the cats, you can use a travel kennel. Bring them some water and food and you are good to go. Another good idea is to give them some cat toys which will make them calmer while you move. If you want to move with an airplane you will need to do a bit more work which will be explained later in the article.

Help your dogs adapt to your new home

Dogs are easier to move than cats, but that doesn’t mean they require less care. It will be easier to move them in a car since most dogs actually like to drive in a car. They will adapt to their new home easier than a cat but you should take some measures. This is especially true if you are moving from a big house with a backyard to a smaller one. If you are moving to an apartment this is very important. You should take them on plenty of walks and take them to the park and play with them. They will settle in this new neighborhood in no time.

Moving pets in a plane

If you move your pets on a plane you will have to take care of some things. First, if it’s an international move then you have to take care of the vaccines and the laws as we already mentioned. Then you need to make a flight reservation. While you do this you have to ask the people from the airline as many questions as possible about the relocation of your pet:

  • Can my pet travel in the cabin instead of the bagging area. This is a good question to start with when you ask about moving with pets
  • Is the bagging area warm
  • What is the cost of moving my pet
  • What papers do I need
  • Is the bagging area heated

These are just a few questions you should ask. AS mentioned pets will be usually taken to the bagging area. The area for pets has ventilation and is dark. This can provide a nice and stress-free space for your pet. This doesn’t have to be the case for smaller dogs or cats, some airline will let them travel in the cabin with you. If they aren’t allowed to be in a cabin with you-you must ask about the heat of the baggage area. If your pet is not resistant to cold and it is winter it might not survive if bagging area is not heated properly.

Moving is a stressful process for everyone. You will have so many things on your mind. So many hard responsibilities. But if you take precautions and research the move properly moving with pets will be easy. We wish this article has helped you make the decision to move to a new place since many people will not move because they think moving with pets is too hard. It isn’t and you shouldn’t worry.

Packing Tip: To Fold or Roll Clothes When Moving?

When moving in New York City there is no doubt a lack of luggage space at times. That’s why it is so important to pack efficiently and utilize all available space. There are many available methods for packing a suitcase and for assembling a load of boxes to be able to move to a new home or apartment, but one of the most complicated packing items can be. There are two general methods of packing clothes, the most obvious being folding. The next is a little less obvious but is at times far more efficient, and is the rolling of clothes. This is the method used in the military, believe it or not, and is sometimes regarded as the most efficient way to pack clothes when moving.

Methods of Packing

Folding

Folding clothes has its own perks, but it is not the most efficient way when the most important thing is saving space. The biggest advantage of this method is that it is far better at keeping clothes from getting wrinkled and keeping them in prime condition. On a business trip, folding up the clothes for the suitcase is most likely a better option. However, when moving in New York City chances are that while folding may be the easier and more comfortable option, there may be better ways to go about assembling the clothes for the move if space is the most important thing.

Rolling

While this method may be more unfamiliar to some, it has its advantages while moving in New York City, or anywhere else for that matter.  Rolling clothes is more efficient at saving space because when those T-shirts or blue jeans are rolled up, they are compressed and are able take up less volume. That means more of them will fit into a box or suitcase than a mover ever thought possible. For that reason, rolling clothes is considered by many to be a better option for packing for a move. If this option seems preferable, it is really very simple. Simply fold the article of clothing in half, and if there are sleeves fold them as well. At this point, roll it tightly and until It resembles the shape of a thin tube. Now it’s ready to be stacked I the suitcase or box with the other clothes of its type. When getting ready for a move, the important thing is to keep things as stress-free as possible. If that means using less space, it is recommended that the rolling method is used. If space is not an issue and there are plenty of boxes or suitcases, then the more traditional method of folding the clothes can work as well.

When moving in New York City there may be unexpected hurdles that need to be crossed and unforeseen challenges that make the task a little difficult. The secret to a smooth move is being aware of what to do and what not to do. Obviously, many other moves have taken place in the past. The best thing to do as a new mover is listen to the advice of those that have gone before.

Moving in New York City

The Don’ts of Moving in New York City-

Get in a Rush
When moving in a rush things are going to get broken, packed poorly, or just go wrong. Packing and moving are both processes, and especially here in New York City. It is important to take time and plan out each process, with ample amount of time so that no item is left forgotten.
Use a Mover that Communicates Poorly
Communication is key during a move, especially in a city as busy as New York. The location, route, and specifications of each move are different and vary from mover to mover. It is essential that the mover chosen is willing to listen to the exact needs of the customer and lay out their expectations and abilities as well, so that everyone is on the same page.

The Do’s of Moving in New York City-

Stay Organized
This may seem obvious, but when moving or packing or doing anything else that requires a lot of attention, time can get away from you, and it is easy to become frazzled and let organization slip away. Allowing yourself enough time to get in contact with a mover and have an appointment set up, have everything packed, and allow the move to take place as well.
Plan Ahead
The most surefire way to ensure that a move goes smooth is to plan ahead. The more planning that goes into moving across New York City the more bases get covered effectively and the less gets overseen. Planning ahead with the moving company also allows them to plan appropriately for the needs of the mover and have an idea of what the people moving need and are able to communicate what they expect, as far as things that should be packed ahead of time, etc.

The next NYC move can be exciting and hassle-free. Make that the case by signing up a professional mover that puts customer service first. For a New York City move, get in touch with Divine Moving at 866-668-7666!
